Why a Trampoline is Perfect for Fun and Fitness

A trampoline (Trampoliner) is a device used for bouncing, made with a steel structure for support and a taut and strong fabric which is stretched over it using a number of coiled springs. There are three basic categories of trampolines on the market; competition trampolines, recreation trampolines, and mini trampolines. A trampoline is the perfect product for kids and families, as it provides a simple and inexpensive way to have fun and get fit at the same time. While the vast majority of modern trampolines made fit into the recreational category, the history of trampolines is linked to sport and physical training.

The first modern trampoline was invented by George Nissen and Larry Griswold in 1936. Both people were sportsmen in different disciplines, with Nissen being a gymnastics and diving competitor and Griswold a tumbler on the gymnastics team. Both men studied and competed at the University of Iowa, USA, and this is where they worked on their invention. In order to come up with the idea of a trampoline, they had observed trapeze artists using a tight net and experimented themselves by stretching a piece of canvas in different ways. While trampolines are still used by divers, gymnasts, and circus artists, the fitness benefits of trampoline use are not restricted to these few pursuits. Bouncing on trampolines is a great way to improve cardiovascular fitness, enhance strength, improve flexibility, and improve balance.

While all categories of trampolines can be used to increase fitness, mini trampolines are designed especially with this goal in mind. A mini trampoline is a simple and small device that is meant to be used by a single person at a time. Because they are so small, they can easily be used both inside and outside, and are commonly seen in gymnasiums and fitness centres. However, when it comes time for fun, competition trampolines and recreational trampolines can not be beat. However, competition devices are not needed by most home users, who simply want a fun and affordable device to entertain their kids. New safety features mean all ages of children can use trampolines, for simple bouncing, tricks, or anything else they can imagine.
